Self Portrait & Portraits part 2

1. If you're taking photos in a studio, use a mannequin for light testing: Much earlier than guesstimating!

2. Get closer.

3. Use the self-timer.

Environmental portrait
I like this photo because it shows the background of where he's at. I think it's a great photo. I chose this photo because I think it shows a lot in this photo and it looks great how it shows the mountains and how high he is.

I like this photo because it shows the woman putting frosting on the cake. I chose this photo because it shows feeling, she seems happy making a cake.

Photography self portrait
I like this photo because its a picture of a guy holding a picture frame of another guys hand holding a picture frame and another and then theirs a mirror to where you can only see his face. I chose this photo because it very interesting to look at.

I like this photo because its cool how she has a picture of someone else and putting it as if it was her face. I chose this photo because it looks pretty cool how it looks like it could be her face.

Casual portrait
I like this photo because she it shows feelings. I chose this photo because I think its just a great photo.

I like this photo because she's smiling like if someone just got her in a good mood. I chose this photo because she seems happy and it's a great photo.

I am not sure who I'm going to shoot yet, I want to shoot somewhere outside because I think every photo that is taken outside looks great and it shows more to the picture if your outside and to make the shot successful, I will make sure the weather isn't bad like raining or too windy or cold.

Fashion

1.) They mad her neck longer and skinnier. They also made her eyes and mouth bigger and they messed with her hair.

2.) No because its not the real beauty in a person its basically just fake.

3.) Yes because you can't just edit an event you way the wanted it to be, its just not right.

4.) Probably just the part about messing with her hair.

5.) Fashion photography shows fake because they edit and photoshop and photojournalism shows real without editing and other stuff like that.

6.) What they all have in common is that the fact that they represent something in the photo.

Lytro warm- up

1.) You had options to blurr out the background on the photo and move the things inside the photo around.

2.) It lets you mess with the settings and create sort of a video photo, which is cool.

3.) You would need to know how to work the manuel settings and know the basic rules of photojournalism.

4.) I think it's worth the money so you can have memories.

American Soldier slide show and captions

A.) The strongest picture is #6 because it shows the whole family and him hugging his brothers or friends before he leaves.

B.)
Set #1) #1 - #7
Set #2) #8 - #22
Set #3) #23 - #70
Set #4) #71 - #83

My opinion is Set #3 because it shows how iraq was.

c.) They are like a timeline from beginning to end from his story.

3.)
A.) Image #26 Ian falls victim to yet another harmless prank by his bunk mates who couldn't resist this golden opportunity as Ian continues to always set himself up for their shenanigans.

B.) The captions enhance the pictures because they describe what is happening during the picture and a little before.

4.)
A.)

5.)
A.) They make it clear on what the photo is

B.) The videos show more details and make us understand the situation better than pictures would.

C. ) Photos take up less time and explain what's happening by the caption and videos takes up more time since it has people talking.

Aperture, Shutter Speed, & Iso

Aperture.
Aperture setting F2.8

F16 or higher

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?
The human eyes, the pupil.

2. Finish this sentence - the smaller the Aperture  f-stop, the higher the Aperture f-stop.

3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field?
Depth of field depends on the chosen aperture & the chosen focus point where objects appear to be sharp.

Shutter Speed.
high shutter speed

slow shutter speed

1. At the beginning while the sun is still partially up and the courtyard has reasonable light
a.) the dunking booth - High shutter speed
b.) the food eating contest - High shutter speed
c.) the rock climbing wall - High shutter speed
d.) someone working at a booth - High shutter speed
e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle - High shutter speed
f.) the Diamonds performance. - High shutter speed

Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other.
a.) the dunking booth - Slow shutter speed
b.) the food eating contest - Slow shutter speed
c.) the rock climbing wall - Slow shutter speed
d.) someone working at a booth - Slow shutter speed
e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle - Slow shutter speed
f.) the Diamonds performance. - Slow shutter speed

2. Auto mode : both shutter & speed are controlled by the camera.
Aperture pirority mode : you select the aperture, & then the camera automatically sets the correct shutter speed.
Shutter priority mode : you set the shutter speed, & the camera automatically sets the aperture.

3. - 3, 2, 1, 0, 1, 2, + 3.

Iso.
ISO 200

 ISO 6400

1.) What are the advantages of shoot at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or a night football game?  Higher ISO increases the sensitivity of your camera, with increased sensitivity your camera sensor can capture images in low-light environments without having to use a flash.
2.) What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO?  You should always try to stick to the lowest ISO of your camera.
3.)What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO? You should increase the ISO when there is not enough light for the camera to be able to quickly capture an image.
4.) At the camera near you, please tell me what ISO's are available on your camera? Auto.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. Tell me which amusement park featured in the two articles that you would like to visit and take your camera along and what about that park made you want to go there. Write at least a paragraph.

I would probably want to visit Lincoln Park, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts and take my camera along. What made me want to go there is that I think it's kind've interesting that 2 men died and some passengers got injured there. The two that died was because they were doing crazy stuff on a roller coaster, a man stood up in a car and was killed going down a lift. The other man was killed trying to climb from one car to another while the coaster was moving. Then about the passengers, the last car detached from the rest of the coaster and rolled backwards until it derailed, tossing its passengers out, injuring them. I't would be cool to go look around the park & look at the roller coaster that the 2 men died in & the passengers got injured in.

2. Post one photo from that park. You may use the photos from the link, or you can google an entirely new photo. I would prefer to see a photo of the park in disrepair and not a photo of it when it was still operating.

3. Think of at least FIVE other unusual places you think would be of interest to photographers. List them.
Idora Park in Ohio USA. Pripyat Park in Ukraine.  Rocky Point in Rhode Island USA. Enchanted Land in Rio de Janeiro.

4. Use google or another search engine to research ONE of your five places and see if anyone has already started documenting that place. If you find that someone has already started - post at least one photo of their work.

5. Write a paragraph about why you think that it would be fun to document that location. Tell me what interests you about that place and what kind of photos you could expect to take there.

6. Tell me what it would take for you to go and take photos at your location. What would you need as far as equipment goes, travel plans, expenses you might encounter and what laws you would have to take into consideration to take photos at your spot.

Academic Shoot reflection

1. Most of the challenges that I encountered were that I was having to be really steady so the picture wouldn't be all blurry and make sure nobody moved to fast for the photo so they won't be blurry.

2. The technical aspects of photography that I found myself thinking about the most is focus & holding the camera still because I't was kinda hard to focus on people, also it was hard to hold the camera still for me.

3. I would try to take more photos so I could have a more of variety to choose from the photos.

4. What I would do the same would be to hold the camera still.

5. I think Avoiding mergers would be the easiest to achieve because all you have to do is take a bad picture that makes someone look different or take a picture of half of someone.

6. I think The rule of thirds would be the hardest because Its hard to capture someone moving.

7. Rule of thirds, I'm still not clear on & what I can do to figure out what it is, is to go back to that website that shows all of the rules.

The rule of thirds

Avoiding Mergers

1. How well did you follow the rule?
I followed the rule by having the guy on the right only have the top part of his body showing.
2. What is the subject?
The subject is that these guys are in the library and doing their work.
3. Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
4. If you didn't follow the rule well, what could you have done differently?

Lines

1. How well did you follow the rule?
I think I followed the rule of lines pretty good.
2. What is the subject?
The subject of the photo is that its book shelves which have lines that lead into another book shelf.
3. Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
I would think so because its pretty simple if you look at it.
4. If you didn't follow the rule well, what could you have done differently?
I think what I could have done differently would probably be the way I took the picture.

Africa and Mural Project

1. My reaction to the photos are that some of the pictures are pretty cool but on some other pictures I think some look plain, I'm not saying they look bad but I think they could do a little better then just an animal.

2.

3. I chose that photo for my favorite because I like how the lion looks and how focused its on the lion, it's a great photo.

4. I think he used Simplicity in this photo because all you can focus on is the lion, theirs nothing else you will focus on.

4. Look up the photographer on Google -

      a. He uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses

      b. while he was shooting a music video for michael jackson he discovered his love for the east africa animals

      c. He has made these types of pictures so that humans can see the beauty of these animals and hopefully influence people to be cognizant about it.

     d. "The photos are my elegy to these beautiful beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes."

Academics & Community Service

I chose "Drop the Bass" for my favorite photo. Its showing a girl dripping some pink liquid into some weird thing and it's exploding back up into the air.

1. I picked this photo because it looks interesting, it makes you wonder "how is she doing that"? It looks awesome how the liquid is exploding up while she continues pouring liquid into the thing.

2. I think avoiding mergers are evident in this photo because it cuts off some of her hand and part of the bottle that she is pouring.

Filling the frame

I chose this photo for filling the frame because its not cutting out the two girls in this picture, its a decent picture.

Action and Emotion

I chose this one because this photo shows that their doing some crazy experiment which is an action, also their emotion is that their like, "woah"! and their smiling.

The Story

I chose this photo for best story because It shows that the teacher gets along with his students and that their enjoying it because their smiling and laughing and also making a funny face. I think the story is that the students proved the teacher wrong in something and he's like, "ahh, okay your right".

Balance

The reason I chose this picture for balance was because if you fold this picture in half, it would look the same on both sides, which is the meaning of balance.

Avoiding Mergers

I picked this picture for avoiding mergers because at the bottom it doesn't show the peoples feet and the whole truck on the right of the photo which their trying to avoid. The picture wasn't good enough to have the whole photo so they had to cut the some of the picture for some reason which is Avoiding Mergers.

Framing

I chose this one for framing because the window is like a frame which shows the U.S.A flag.

Lines

I chose this photo for lines because the smoke looks like lines going across the building.

The Rule of Thirds

I chose this photo for the rule of thirds because it shows the twin towers at the top of the picture and some of the shadow of the buildings.

Simplicity

I chose this photo because the background is clear and not showing much cause all you can focus on is the buildings which shows clearly.

Unusual and interesting photos

1. My reaction of his work is that his work is unique. His is different from others i've seen. I like how he makes the buildings into three, making it look like its shaking or something.

2. I think he made these photos by photoshop or some other editing programs.

3. I think the white house would be a great building to take a picture like that for which is in Washington D.C. You would probably have to go when they take tours and stuff to access.

Part 2

1.) I chose this photo because its basketball which is one of the sports I like to play and the game is on a ship.
2.) I found this photo in Sports Action.
3.) It got honorable mention.
4.) What the photographer did that attracted my eye was the basketball game.
5.) I think the reason the judges pick this photo was you can see the game goin on and the ship and how the sky looks.
6.) The ship in the back.

1.) I chose this photo because you can see whats happening to the cars and it also looks awesome.
2.) I found this photo in Sports Action.
3.) It got 3rd place.
4.) What attracted my eye was the car in the air.
5.) I think the judges chose this photo because the cars were all crashing and on fire, How it was taken.
6.) The one car in the air and all the crashing.
